Tanked

Watched one of those shows the other day and in one half, they created one of the most incredible looking HUGE marine tanks with real corals etc, a beautiful chalice if i remmber rightly...

And in the other half, created the most dire tropical tank for a youth center... seriously... the tank cant have been more than 400L cube... but they were boasting about having to keep malawis crowded... and poured in over 100 malawis!! Including sume huge peacocks.

I doubt they would keep it it like that but it was awful to see it lol!

Yeah lol...

I seen the one with all the cichlids in the smallish tank and also the 8 gallon tv tank with all the Bala sharks lol....smh

The tanks they build are really cool, but they are a couple of obnoxious morons.

once there was a episode on one of them where they went back and took some fish of a client as they out grew a tank and  used it for a new tank. so the bala sharks will probably be moved after some time

Just hope they dont sell those tanks but the only programme i watched was i think its called fish tank kings but it would be good if there was a programme that did a documentary about fish tank fishes like once i saw this documentary called "Africa" and it showed the butterfly fish in its own enviroment and it says that it jumps out the water to avoid predators.

Ok so today these guys built a gorgeous las Vegas themed tank in the new episode

Only problem is that they then stocked it with 'around 600' glo light fish and from what I could see around 20 kissing gouramis...

The tank was only something like 450 gallons!!! Poor fish :'(

Last week they built a kid a 30 liter tv themed tank.. Then put guppies, bala sharks and rainbow sharks in there!!! 30 LITRES!!!

I know nothing about marine tanks but I hope they dont stock them as bad as this aswel :'(

We should gang up and write a letter of complaint lol ;-)

...rant over....

I used to quite enjoy it but their stocking is horrendous, they claim to love fish but I doubt many of the fish they put in their tanks survive for very long

there more salwater themed and know nothing about freshwater fish
Dunno.gif

The one where they put 600+ neon glow danios and skirt tetras in that wedding chapel tank? Was just painful to watch!! >.<

However the double bowed marine tank at the University was amazing... even then... that tank was horrendously over stocked as well... the bottom part was <2000L so yeah... big.. but they put in 26 Volitans Lionfish, 6 Blue Spot Rays, 2 snub nose rays?? and two sharks that I cant remember names off, notto mention vast numbers of snappers and tangs etc in the top tank!

I find it amusing how on the show they were (queue shocked gasps!) only given 2 weeks to make and install this tank and get fish in it...

But when you read the story from Saint Leos University, they had the system running for weeks to get it settled right and it had actually been in the planning for a year and a half, not two weeks ;)

"We want to allow the producers to hype the show on their terms," said Ken Posner, associate vice president for student services. He served as the point person for the negotiations, which began about a year and a half ago, just before the university broke ground on two new residence halls. As part of the agreement with the show's producers, the university administration promised to maintain strict confidentiality about financial and production details.

It has taken the past six weeks for the tank to stabilize to the perfect pH balance and temperature (77 degrees Fahrenheit). When 25 spotted and tentacled lion fish arrive next week, students from the biology department will maintain the system and keep the fish healthy.

And nice to see they went the whole hog on equipment and feeding too!

"Fish are fed every other day," Posner said. "The lion fish only eat live ghost or cherry shrimp. The rest of the species in the tank prefer live tissue as well, but will eat a seafood medley of clams, mussels, squid, or oysters."
An equipment room behind the tank contains a source of electricity, an ozone and UV filtration system, a 280-gallon holding vat for future aquarium inhabitants and a separate air conditioning system to maintain a constant temperature. A backup generator also is in place in the event of power outages.

That said, when you watch the episode back, you can see they have a huge curtain up hiding the fact that the tank is either already in place when shot was done or the gap for the tank and long been built!

And you can see changes in the filming shots of when tank was built, when it was installed and then when fish were added. Makes it clear just how hyped up it is for the TV but really, I still feel they ought to lead more by example and not overstock and to show the filtration and explain the cycling as well.

How much do those tanks cost? They never tell you how much they are.. That 2 tier marine tank was gorgeous.. I want one (when I win the lottery obviously) ;-)
