I got 3 second hand tanks today for $25 (its all I could afford :( ) from a fish shop having a referbrishment (sp?) sale. See pic 1, One has a small crack see pic 2. would it be better to either silicone a piece of glass over it or to try and replace the whole piece.

I definitely would not take the chance - it's just not worth it :( replace that panel or if you can't afford that right now, just put the tank away until you can.

Agreed! but thats a very good buy! 3 tanks for that price! even if one is broken!

I have a 20 gal tank that was home made by someone, and it had a crack in the bottom when I found it, so I got a peace of glass to cover the crack that was in the corner and went hardcore with the silocone, worked for me, and since its a small tank i'm sure you woudlnt have a problem if you did the same.
