The tank that my friend is giving me comes tomorrow, but it doesn't have a stand or cabinet with it. I don't have anywhere really to put it, so I need to buy something to put it on.

Ideally I would love to get a small cupboard, which would double as somewhere to keep the fish stuff. Cost is a consideration, but I'm worried that something flat packed might not be strong enough.

As far as I know, it's a 2 foot tank - any advice?

Making is not an option, I'm useless at that sort of thing and so is my husband. Where would I buy a stand?

There are lots of options. Walmart sells Iron stands, you can get wood stands at most large LPS(they tend to be pricey). You can build a stand using this site, click DIY Pages on the left side then stand building. Enter the dimensions you want the stand to be and it will give you a material list and instructions. You can also use a desk or something similar as a stand, that is what I did for my 2ft tank. It can also sit on the floor if you create a base.

Look around for an older nightstand. New ones are made like junk, for the money for a good new one you could get a stand. Craigs list, garage sales, the sources are endless. I have one in the family room, usually used as an end table, that get pressed into sevice as a 20 gallon stand.

second hand stores r a great place to find dressers, night stand, sometimes even tank stands. My Buddy used Two night stands side by side for one of his tanks. Just do the sit test. Sit on it if it doesn't wobble and u feel safe it should be OK for a tank. I personally would not use those cheap put together entertainment centers i tried the sit test and it didn't wobble it fell ouch!!
