Tank Volume / Size

Hello,
Going on the mimimum suggestion of 20 US gallons for one goldfish, what would the actual size of a bog standard tank be? Are we talking 1 foot x 1 foot x 3 foot, or larger, or...?
Just need a rough idea, and my maths isn't up to the conversions!
