will buying a tank uv reduce the risk of your fish getting fin rot and other forms of bacteria problems, if any one has got one would u recomend one :)

Yes.

UV filters do help to reduce the background levels of parasites and bacteria in the tank and also help to prevent things like green water algae, so it can help to reduce disease out breaks.

However, if you quarantine fish before adding them to your main tank, have a fully cycled tank and keep to a regular water change schedule you don't really need them.

I have one on my setup because I wanted the extra level of protection they give and have a planted tank that gets upset my meds. They're very popular on marine tanks for the same reason.

I can't really comment on good or bad units. I think go for more than you need, because parasites like Ich are actually very resistant to UV, so need a longer period in contact with the UV to kill them.

That's what I have an 8W Vectron, although if I had room in the cabinate under the tank I'd probably go a power size up.

You'll need an external filter as well to be able to plumb it in.

i have also got one

do you connect the uv into your inlet, and how do u do it

cut the hose and put the ends onto the hosetails on the UV. They just push on with a tight fit, no need for any clips.

Has anybody done this Vectron 8w with a fluval external???
I was also thinking of getting one for cheap. Would they reduce the the algea in my tank along with help everything stated above. Do they help with most algea problems.
It says up to 680 LPH my fluval 305 does 1000lph.
