Tank is now 2 month old, setup with mature rock and water. Untill 5 days ago I had been water changing with the waist (290 ppm) from my RO unit instead of the filtered! discovered after buying a TDS meter, will use the 2 ppm water in future.
I have had a little head start as my friend is in the trade and has vast knowledge and a wealth of shops/friends I have been introduced too. So I have started the right way and have not had to feel my way around the dark, its been set up right and kept right, bar the RO water error.
Casualties along the way, so far.
The first was a sea hare, real shame as this was a fascinating creature. Next to go was a hermit crab, murdered by a blue legged hermit I inherited from the local shop along with a corral I got, nearly murdered my big red hermit before I pulled it and tossed it into a bucket. The next to go was a 4-5 inch clam, hard to tell but I think it might have been a little rushed into the tank, but it lasted about 2 weeks before on morning the worms had moved in. My bristle worm has shed it feathers and was last seen 2 weeks ago popping its head up a little to have a look, will leave this in as I read it can be dormant for months.
So here I am now mesuring up a custom tank 38 long X 28 wide X 30 deep = 500ish ltr + a sump. So should have loads of water!! and a good size main.
And to think I started this because a friend was selling a tank, which would not fit in my space.!
