Tank Size For Corydoras

Curious little me, asking questions again. Anyway, once again growing interest with these cutie little mini-cats, I was wondering what the minimum tank size for a small shoaler is. (e.g., maybe 4-5 or more?) Not something they would be terribly uncomfortable in, but... well, livable? Thanks.

Species only tank? In which case you could get smaller cories into a 10 gallon tank relatively easily.

How many, really? At the moment I'm attempting to breed bettas (ones I got now are tiny little buggers) and after that when the fry get moved to a 30 gallon (which I will buy after I succeed if I do...) then I'll be left with an empty 10 gallon which I really don't know what to do with.
