Hi folks,

Here's a question that's been bugging me for ages. So we can't keep two males together (for obvious reasons) and should even be careful with females. BUT I guess that there are more than one male in each paddifield, and a host of females!

So how big would a tank need to be to be a peaceful, harmonious betta spendens species tank. Several males all with their own territories and bubble nests, females around the place, maybe even some breeding. And what tank conditions would be best? I guess as close to the still shallow muddy bottomed waters of home?

Don't know if I'll ever have a tank big enough for this and it's certainly not an ambition, just interested to know if anyone has ever tried it and had any success?

Cheers

Tbh I don't think it could be done at all no matter what size tank

So what's the difference between a natural habitat and a monster tank?

Natural habitat is much bigger, more opportunities to get away from others.
No matter how hard we try we can never provide a truly natural set up in our tanks

So a 12 foot x12 foot tank you think would be suitable for several males & females to all live in harmony?

I know there is a betta keeper on the forum that has several females and 1 male in a heavily planted tank together...im not sure of the tank size, but i know she doesnt recommend it

I'd like to see someone attempt it, but I doubt anyone could have that size tank, so the original question is moot

Wouldn't you also need to stain the water?

hmm. a tank of the size i mentioned is dwarfed by the two at our local hunting shop, they are both around 55-60 feet, long, 10-15 feet wide, 10 feet tall
