tank set up

can you all check this tank srt up it is not set up yet and the tank will hold malwi cichlids.

filter- fluval 404 external
heater- 150 watt
tank- 3 1/2 foot 40 uk gallon
sand on the bottom 1 1/2 deep
rocks
fish- unkown
temp- 78 F
PH- 8.5

sorry to nit pick or anything but how you know the temp/ph if its not setup yet?

but yeah i guess that sounds ok, i think i heard the ph is supposed to be 8.2 but its not that big of a deal(+i could be wrong)

why do you want your pH so alkaline?
my malawis are very happy at 7.5 with no problems.
i think you should find out what the pH is in the place
you are buying your fish and aim for that.

other than that it looks good to me.

Don't get carried away with PH. 7.5 will indeed work fine, as will 8.5.

You won't really know what your ph is until the aquarium is set up and running, but the chances are most likely that it will fall within the desirable range.

Otherwise it sounds fine to me too.

thanks the PH in my other tanks is around 7.5 - 8.5 thats were i got it from.
