Tank Renovation

Apologies for the delays here, things have stalled a little since the last post. Parent/teacher nights, sports days & overtime at work have been very absorbing.

Anyway, Shelster, I got to the bottom of the bag, checked out the label and it was barcoded, with little writing saying "Aquarium Sand BLACK 300micron"

It seems to be either fake or unbranded. Grains are about half the size of playsand. It took ALOT to clean this sand up, under my lighting the top layer has a bit of a purply tinge.

Anyway, this weekend I bought a concealed hinge drill bit to drill the hinge holes, this is really an essential bit of kit for anyone thinking of doing these and not the cheapest. In addition I have bought a few metres of black drain pipe in two sizes from good ole Wickes for a few pounds. With the aid of silicon I am creating a bit of a hap-hazard tube structure which is to be covered in some of the sand then getting covered in java moss. Hopefully over a few months the moss will cover the pipes enough to give a more natural feel to the tank.
