Hi so I have gotten a 21 gallon tank and want some advice on if this is a good combo of fish 1betta male 6corydora 6/7 neon tetra thought suggestions or comments all welcome one thing is that I dont want to not have a betta (they are just too darn cute) please help if you can

i have my betta with cories, he used to have albino cories for his tank mates but i moved the albino cories to another tank and now he got new panda cories to join him. i find my betta tank gets dirty too often because my betta is such a picky eater, so having more fish to join him to share the food is a good combo for me and since the cories are bottom dweller my betta really don't care about them.

It would really depend on the personality of the betta. Some are very laid back and chill, others are... not. Neon tetras can be good tank mates, cories too, if you have a peaceful betta and make sure to provide lots of hiding spaces.

I concur, it all depends on the temperament of the Betta.

Usually Bettas would be alright with a shoal or Corys, because they stay on the bottom. Neon Tetras swim near the top/middle, which is where the Betta also swims. The Neons will stress the Betta out and vise versa.

yup, my betta is kinda chill but he sometimes flare at the honey gourami from the tank next to his. But that’s all he never really bother any of his tank mates, i also have red cherry shrimps and now ther are breeding there

i also have lots of tall and lush plants for his tank, i guess that’s why he never really bother the shrimps.

i could be wrong though, since i’m also new to the hobby. That’s just my experience with my betta.

I have had some bettas be okay with tankmates, and others that kill everyone in sight. Be prepared to return the betta, make sure the store is okay with that. Have the other fish in the tank for a while and add the betta last.

Neon Tetra require very clean water in a tank matured for at least six months, they originate from ultra clean rivers in South America, so frequently fall unwell from bacteria in new tanks. The Betta will attack all small fish, so not a wise choice. PJ

I stay away from neons, they are overbred and oversold, even feature their own disease
