Tank was set up in Oct 2010, bumpy start, but fully cycled in 4 weeks with the help of an establish canister filter and a quantity of used gravel. All decor came from a collection of tanks. It is designed to be very low maintenance, and works as such.
Still a work in progress. It is still understocked, but will remedy that over time. A bit fussy what i add *L* More plants will also be added over time.

11th Oct - 9 days after setup, battling MAJOR ammonia, rough draft. Potted plants purely in there to use up ammonia

23rd Oct - potted plants removed, bit more plant tweaking

14th Nov

5th Dec - starting to grow in a bit

3rd Jan - As it is prettymuch now

I got the tank in Aug 2010 and promptly set up the tank using the gravel provided and the Juwel 3D backing that came with the tank. Once everything had set I started a fishless cycle, eagerly testing my ammonia everyday, only to always get the same reading...4ppm. This happened for 6 weeks

After 6 weeks of no ammonia changes, I decided something was wrong and I stripped the tank completely, hacked the 3D backing off, threw away the gravel and started again.
New backing, new ammonia, new gravel, new filter sponges and my rocks scrubbed clean with ammonia.

After 6 weeks, I had completed my fishless cycle!!!
In went my first fish (Bentosi Tetras)

then my plants and more and more fish over the months.

Over Christmas I battled a case of Black Beard Algae then decided to take off runners from my plants and replant them around the tank, coming to the tank I entered into the competition and I have in my living room today!

The tank is 240l and has been running about 6 weeks. I got the tank for Christmas and planned doing SW but once I looked into it, I got put off and decided to go with a smaller tank which wouldn't require a sump. I took cuttings from my tank which is already set up and planted them in the tank with no set structure. I then did a fish in cycle using media from my set up tank and the fish from the already set up tank. The picture I used for TOTM was taken 2 days after everything was in the tank.

My current stock in the tank is as follows:

10x Harlequin Rasboras
10x Blue tetras
10x Lemon tetras
10x Bronze corys
4x Keyhole cichlids

My planned stocking is as follows:

A pair of Keyhole cichlids
A pair of Bolivian rams
2m 6f Apistogrammas (not sure which species, suggestions woudl be great)
30x Harlequin rasboras
10x corys
3x L260 plecos

The plants are as follows:

Background - Ceratopteris thalictroides
Midground, Java ferns(on wood), Java moss(on wood), Flame moss(on wood), Pellia moss(on wood), Vallis, Crypts and an Amazon Sword
Foreground, Pogostemon Helfri

I do not use any ferts but do 5% daily water changes. I use sand substrate. I use a 300w heater and have the temp at around 76f. I have a Fluval 305 external filter.
