Tank mates for Black ghost knife fish

you need to well-plant the tank for your fish selection too
and i don't mean lightly, i mean bushy to where you can't see the back
that's going to cost about $1000 USD (if you buy from reasonably priced places), so you have an idea.

The bushfish wants it heavily planted. The knifefish doesn’t.

As far as support for the tank, the tank will be on the bottom floor of my house (I'm from the UK so we call the bottom floor the ground floor sorry if that got lost in translation) the floor is concrete with a load bearing foundation, I think my cabinet will be built out of a steel frame clad in wood on the outside to increase support

as far as aqua scape i was think about creating different zones to have large open swimming areas a heavily planted area and an area with plenty of hides and caves for the knife fish

On the issue of groups...this might not be an advantage. You have a certain aquascape in mind, and if you start throwing in a group of Royal Farlowella for example, this is a game changer.

Re the support, I agree that a tank this large must be on a concrete slab lower level. Any normal wood frame construction is not likely sufficient support.
do you think a royal farlowella should be kept on its own, ill get a group of banjo cats but should i keep only one specimen of the royal farlowella

as far as more species I was thinking a small group of roman nose angle fish, they have the unique look i was looking for in the fish for the tank but will add some day time movement

I personally would not include this species (Sturisoma panamense), because its needs are not compatible. Here's Planet Catfish's data, note the need for flowing water and cooler temperatures.

yeah ok I get that do you think the banjo catfish (Bunocephalus coracoideus) would be ok though solo or in a group

A group, maybe five? Or singly, I had one back in the 1980's I think, but honestly can't remember much about it, that was a long time back! It does share conditions with the other fish here, like low lighting, lots of cover, etc.

great thankyou i really like this fish so ill be adding a group of 5 or more as bottom dwellers

Forgot to mention it previously, but yes, m a group here is better, as a single Banjo might be quite frightened in a tank with the upper fish, and a group usually helps with this, which means better health.

ill make sure to add a group then : )

does everyone think roman nose anglefish (pterophyllum leopoldi) would work well i think they are really intresting fish in a large group

Best thing for a bgk is a pipe, eg a section of guttering down pipe. It will choose one hide and live in it, so you only need one. In nature they sleep in hollow branches, so a pipe is ideal. (Please don’t use one of those ridiculous see-thru pipes. They want darkness when they’re sleeping).
