Ok, so I recently upgraded my 28l tank to a 90l tank. Still got a small number of fish at the moment: 8 neons, 2 albino corys, 4 algae eating shrimp ,a bristle nose and my female German blue ram.
When I bought her, she was the only one in the tank and I didn't know exactly what she was. Done research and thinking she needs some tank mates. But can't decide whether to buy a second female or buy a male? Only I hear males can be a bit aggressive? And I'm creating a peaceful community tank.
Also interested in getting some dwarf gouramis. How maany is best? Will they make good tank mates?

any help is much appreciated :)

i was recently looking into gouramis and this is the info i was given at my lfs they can be an agressive species but if the tank is well planted and has plenty of obstacles to break up their line of sight they should be fine this advice should go for the rams aswell and i also want some male blue rams, they advised me to go for the rams instead of the gouramis but to keep them in a group of four or more as the larger the schoal the more peaceful they are, but if any of this info is wrong i would like to know aswell but this is what i know :) hope it helps

karl.

I would up the number of corys .
What temp do you have your tank at, GBR like their temps higher than most of your stock.
I would add a male GBR and leave it at that.
Make sure to up the corys though.

Thanks guys. My tanks at about 25 c but they all are in perfect health

GBR require high temperatures or they wont live til their full life capacity, they can live for around 5 years or more, if the temp is not correct they will last a lot less than that, how do you know the fish are healthy, do you talk fish? Lol :)

Sorry this is confusing as a posted the forum twice accidents :/
I see, will the other fish in my tank be ok with a higher temp? It's always been ay 25c if I up it shall I just do it gradually over a few days? Lol by healthy I just mean they are all colourful and active and eating normally lol

I would say get a male, GBR are good as pairs. He will probably chase the female about sometimes but shouldn't harm her in anyway. If you have room 1 male Dwarf Gourami would be OK, anymore than that in a tank your size they would probably fight a fair bit. I have GBR's and DG together and no problems.

Oh ok, no female DGs then? I would think I have room, just at the moment theyve just moved into a 90l (23 gallon), and it seems completely empty in there lol.
I will try and upload a picture of the tank maybe

No females are fine, 3 would be ideal if you have enough space. Saying that you don't see many in the shops as there pretty plain compared to the males and don't sell well.

Oh ok, so the more 'pretty' DGs, the ones generally in shops are all males?

So maybe I would be better getting another female gbr and a male dg
