The lid on my one gallon is a screen lid. The tank he is in now is not ideal, but I just HAD to get him out of that petstore. Right now, all the lid will do is keep him from jumping out. I don't know when I'll have the money to buy him a new tank, what should I do in the meantime so the air in his little tank stays humid?

I was thinking maybe making my own temporary lid, maybe covering the exhisting lid in cloth with holes? Would this keep my air humid?

Will do. Should this just be over the tank or would it work over the screen lid?

EDIT: Ok I covered the top of the tank with plasticwrap, how many holes should I poke? I used the tip of a scissors to poke a few, will this be enough?

I didn't know it was important to keep the air humid?

Oh well, it's always humid where I live

That should do it just fine.

The air for Bettas doesn't HAVE to be humid. Just for Betta fry. But I'm sure your new boy is going to appreciate the extra effort you've gone to on his behalf.

Sorry, I know this topic is old news, but I HAD to bring up this funny story. My mom walked into my room and apparantly saw the plastic wrap over merlin's tank. She also apparantly did not see the holes. She ran up to me asking why I was trying to suffocate my fish. :p
