Tank Hood And Plastic Card?

I was thinking of designing my aquarium hood so that it was lined inside with plastic card so that any tank moisture just runs off and doesn't swell the wood (not sure what to use yet, probably veneered chipboard). Is this a stupid idea?

ie in terms of heat off the lighting possibly causing melting etc (agian not sure about which lighting i'm going to use yet, nned to research). The plastic card will be that of the hobby kind that's just like the stuff used for plastic models.
