I have a 55G tank (over 4 feet), which I need to divide into 2 parts for about a month (waiting for a baby to grow up before I can put him in with the others). How do I go about dividing the tank safely? Is is possible to buy tank dividers from somewhere? Or should I just go to glass store, and get a piece of glass cut into the correct size to divide the tank from the middle? Any suggestions will be welcome, many thanks in advance!

Clear perspex might be better/cheaper than glass... don't forget to drill holes in it so water/heat can pass between the two halves...

im actually thinking of doing this with an 18" tank i have. I got some 4mm sliders from b&q which i normally use for the sliders for my lids on the tanks. I am simply going to get some aqua silicon and fix some of these sliders in the front and back of the tank in line with each other so i can slide them in and out as and when i need to. I was going to drill holes all over them so water and heat can pass through them, but im not sure where i should place my internal filter. I was thinking of putting it in one end and the heater in the other end but im worried that i wont get a good circulation through all three sections.

How about using the plastic canvas that is used to make crafts? It comes in huge sheets and can be cut to size.It is a grid so no need to cut holes for water pasage.

good idea ! might have to look in to the cost of that, although a friend of mine works for a perspex place so it doesnt cost me anything for the pieces i need. However, im still concered about water movement through the sections via an internal filter... problably a fluval 2+

Hi, many thanks for your ideas! I found some dividers on sale on internet, but all are the wrong size! (I need 36" x 40"). So I'm gonna try one of your ideas...But am not too good at DIY...Maybe the plastic canvas would be the easiest? But how do I fix it to the sides/bottom of the tank? It has to be fixed so that I can take it off in about a month....Tricky...????
