i think like 4-5 onch max mabye little bigger and blk slate or honeycomb rock would do good with a crused coral rock substraite or sand if your willing for more work to up the ph but if u had to u could go with gravel

i will be using sand as i find it much easier to clean

what about bog wood also as i have it in my tank now this will be the tank the firemouths are staying in

i no bog wood makes water usually softer but with the sand cancelling some out i dont think it would be a problem i know and have seen tons of convict and firemouth tanks with bog wood so it shouldnt hurt them.

convicts also like flower pots..and they a good place for them to lay there eggs :good:

i find that the rocks look more natural but pots will do just as good. the rocks i suggested are very good for breding as well so its your pick of natural or a little bit better breeding it all depends on if your going for breeding or looks.

2 convicts in 1 tank 2 firemouths in the other :good:

the tanks will be well big enough for 2 fish in each tank

Both grow to a max of 6". Correct if wrong but Firemouths get about 7" at a high age. Have a minimum of a 25G for the fish. There is no need for crushed coral as they dont need a high pH. Just 7-7.8 will do. Bogwood/Driftwood lowers pH but regular water changes will keep your pH to were you want it. After about 6 weeks-3 months it doesnt lower your pH any more.

Add slate and or flat surfaces for both fish to breed on. Have a minimum filtration so you can turn over the water 5x or more an hour. So your looking at a filter rated for 75G in a 25G. These are cichlids, which mean they're messy.
