I have read a lot of questions, asking which hardy fish i should use to cycle my tank. :grr: I know everyone here at some point was a novice and lfs advice probably leads them down what i consider the unneccessary path of cycling with livestock. Live rock is a great expense, and fish are cheap; that for some people seems to be a dilemma. I do not aim to judge your conscience is your own.
This poll IS NOT a name and shame. It is to see how you would cycle a tank if you were to start from scratch NOW. :D

This was supposed to be a poll, but it didn't quite work - just tell me in replies.

Thanks

best fish IMO is a tomato clown fish or a clarkii clown, they are well hardy guys and well have great colours too!

IMO the reason we keep Fish/Inverts etc is because of a love/interest in these creatures

If your 1st act as a Novice is to chuck livestock into a toxic enviroment then IMO you are simply playing at reefkeeping, this aint a cheap hobby and if you are going to scrimp & save at the risk or your livestock welfare then IMO you are in the wrong hobby :grr: :grr:

If $$$ is a dilema then still to tropicals :sly:

I spend a lot of time on this forum, but I rarely post. I generally just read peoples questions and give the odd answer when the mood takes me.

This topic did not turn out the way I would have liked. I was trying to gauge opinion on which cycling method people used.

I have read a few posts over the last couple of months, all inferring the use of livestock to cycle their tanks  There has always been the odd question asked about using livestock to cycle, but it seems to be more and more frequently asked

It concerns me that people start to have problems - " HELP MY FISH ARE DYING" - I then read the post unsurprised that they were cycling with the now DEAD fish. IMO if they had purchased a dead fish in the first place, the tank would have cycled just as well.

I have stopped replying to these posts because I find the answers so frustrating. " THE LFS SAID" " I HAVE KEPT TROPICALS FOR YEARS" " THE CYCLES FINISHED NOW AND THE FISH ARE FINE" "LR IS TO EXPENSIVE"

I know I said at the top of this post that " I do not aim to judge" well that was for a poll. The poll did not work so now it seems I can be less impartial.
