Tank "crash"?

What does it mean if my tank "Crashes"? I've read on this forum several times that starfish, when they die, can crash a tank... I'm assuming it means they ruin the water or cause some sort of dangerous chemical to be released but i'm curious of what exactly it means, and how to prevent tank crashes.

A tank crash means its left uninhabitable. Either all the livestock have died or they are in need of removal extremly quickly.

Even the most advanced owners get tank crashes, I would suggest that you take things slowly, research thoroughly and dont add things to the system (be it livestock , chemicals or equipment) without knowing its potential hazzards.
