Hi everyone,

I have had a 50 litre tropical tank for 3 months now which hold various shrimp, a false julli cory which i got today, 4 neon tetra and 3 rummynose tetra. I was wondering what others i could add? I am wanting either a lone fish or a pair that stand out and are fairly colourful.

Thanks!

My suggestion?

Return the neons and the rummynoses. They are shoaling fish and need larger numbers. Also I wouldn't keep any tetra in a tank that is less than three feet long.

Get five more corys of the same species. Again, shoaling fish, and I would never keep fewer than six. Your tank is small, but it should manage with six of them.

If you REALLY want a shoaling fish consider some of the smaller rasboras.

As a centrepiece fish either a betta or a dwarf gourami, a male in both cases.

Sorry in advance, but I'm going to disappoint you.

Corydoras need to be kept in groups of at least six, and that wouldn't leave you with room for anything else.

50l is very small and you'd be better off looking at different species altogether; the rummynoses are certainly going to get too big.

shoaling fish should be in groups of 6+ minimum.
remember not to add more than 6 fish (depending on tank size) at a time because it'll mess with your water and you'll start having complications.

Ok thanks for the advice, will all my shrimp still be okay? I have 1 rili shrimp, 1 bee shrimp, 2 ghost shrimp, 1 amano and about 4 cherries. Can dwarf gouramis live solitary? Are they aggressive or hard to keep? Thank you again

Yes, your shrimp are fine; they don't need very much swimming room and don't produce much waste for their size, compared to fish.

Dwarf gouramis are not generally aggressive, except the males to other dwarf gourami males, so it's one male per tank, with a couple of females, if you have room, but they can be kept alone quite happily.

They're not hard to keep but, be warned, they can suffer from a nasty thing called 'iridovirus' (aka 'dwarf gourami disease') which is incurable
