Hey guys I have a question i just bought the paper backround that goes on the back of your tank. I bought black cause i didnt liek the one with all the
coral on it and stuff. Only problem is the black is like reflective and the tank looks horrible with the lights on in my room. Any way of fixing this, or
anyother type of black backround i can do?? I was thinkin contruction paper but it may be a mess if it gets wet.

I use black plastic garbage bags on any of my tanks that require a background.

I have a black background and I don't get any reflections. Anyways have you considered painting the back of your tank black. Like a dull back of course the outside not inside of the tank lol. :good:

Sounds risky... But i should look into it more and see if i can find some good paint.. Maybe ill go to Home Depot 2morrow.

There are some stickers that you can buy online where you can stick your background internally rather than having it on the outside. Paints okay but if you come to sell the tank it will surely lower the price though i agree it can look very effective. I can let you have e-mail address for those stickers if you require them. Some people rub the backgrounds with a little vaseline and when that is put agains't the glass it gives you a totally different look too. Cork tiles can also look really good. I just have a rock background on a 30 inch deep tank and everyone says how good it looks.

Just be aware that painting your background makes it difficult to change the background if you should ever change your mind or not like the final result. You will have to scrape the paint off with a razor blade and it can get pretty messy. It does look really good though if you are into a solid colored background I still think it gives the best possible look.

Another point to remember is that if you paint it with anything oil based it will be that much harder to get off and if you use enamel it can have a tendency to "orange peel" back off a few months down the road. I suggest you use latex. You may have to get them to mix you some up at the Home Depot but all you have to do is ask em to mix you up some black latex and it would be worth it. Latex is waterbased and MUCH easier to clean up although I still of course would not get the black paint on clothing or carpet. :good:

If I were you, and I had already bought a background, I would fix what I had. Fitting your reflective black background very flush and straight against the glass should keep some of the reflective qualities down. You can stick your background to your back glass by using vaseline.
