I was just wondering if there is any point to having backgrounds on the tanks. Does it make the fish happier? I never have had any but might if it might make the fish happier? I dunno kinda silly but tell me what you think.

I think it gives the fish a sense of security especially if one side isn't against the wall.

Although, having said that, the way I have my tanks set up, the fish feel the safest in the front bottom corners. I do this on purpose so they get used to me. I move my lighting all the way to the back so it's darker up front and I move all rocks and plants to the front. Over the first few days I see where they go for safety, then I gradually move all other plants/rockwork around the tank and leave their safety spot in the front. No more hiding fish for me! :smb:

I use backdrops to hide all the pipeing and cables around the back. Otherwise without it, it doesn't look as natural

That's actually a great point and one I didn't think of. I bet I wouldn't forget it if I went without a background. :D

I also find that having a tank background (whether the planted look, or just plain blue) helps to give a greater feel of depth and therefore more natural. :D
