I have a tanganyikan tank i have 2 Neolamprologus leleupi 2 Neolamprologus cylindricus and 2 Labidochromis caeruleus yes im well aware these are malawi but it works i have done my research but anyway my tank looks bare i want more fish but cant find tangs ANYWHERE!! i just about got the ones i have but i was wondering what you think i should add to make the middle to top bit look more active any ideas will be great my tank size is approx 30gal

thanks

just my opinion, i wouldn't have 2 shellies of different species in the same tank. It ups the chances for hybridization.

Hmmm as for a fish to add.... have you looked at julidochromis species? I love the way they look, but can't really get them for my tank. probably could do a pair of Neolamprologus leleupi ...but I guess it may be hard if you can't find Tangs locally. Have you thought about have them shipped?

With a tank of your size There are not a great number of options for Tangs. anything under 4ft is too small really for Cyprichromis which are the upper/mid shoaling cichlids of Tanganyika. Paracyprichromis are often suggest but I tend to find that they hug the rockwork a lot and need this as territory, which would put them in conflict with your fish already there, not the best idea.

Not sure what else to suggest for a 30g, I use tetras and Danios as dither fish in my smaller shellie setups and seems to work well. Have you considered them? A lot cheaper too....

i cant see communtiy fish especially tetras lasting long in a high PH tang setup

On the contrary many tetras are kept in hard water with no problems at all, they might not breed, but are very adaptable. If they are adapted to hard water from the wholesaler/shop then they will be fine.

:good: did you read up on them first? How many did you pick up?
Yep i got a pair i read there aggresive but can get along with Neolamprologus leleupi/ cylindricus so i should be ok

Did you get a male and female pair? If, or should I say when they breed, they will attack everything else in a 30g tank without exception....you will get a nice tank full of baby brichardi's though!
