Hi -

On Sunday I am picking up an established 3ft fish tank (regular dimensions) from a friend. Together with the tank, I will also be picking up a couple of clown loaches and a breeding pair of plecostumous. The tank comes with lights, heater, filter, gravel, drift wood & other ornaments, and some plants (unkown variety). I hope to bring along at least some of the existing water with the tank (depending on transportation practicalities, about a third of the volume).

The questions that I have, and hope you can answer, are:

* how do I add water to the tank - what treatments will it need (outside/inside the tank) & at what rate should it be added to the tank?
* is there anything that I can do with the water now already in preparation of receiving the tank on Sunday?
* do you have any other advice?

All advice appreciated.

Hi. A month ago I collected an established tank with fish also. try and keep as much as the original water as possible by taking a bucket with you. The night before prepare a bucket with clean water, treated and leave to stand over night. Once you get back and have the ank in place start filling with the water you saved and brought with you, then add the wtaer you prepared the night before. Float fish in bag as if you had bought them as they will need to adjust still. All worked very well for me. I was in a panick thinking it would be real hard but it went a doddle.

Thanks for the reply.

I have now arranged to pick the fish up a week after I pick up the tank - this way I will have time to make sure that the tank is settled.
