I intially had 5 male guppies and 5 mixed sex mollies 1 of my guppies was constantly being chased by 3 of the mollies eventually the guppies tail had a large split in it and then died. we removed the 3 mollies and have replaced them with some more male guppies. now another guppy has a split in its tail but the remaining mollies are very unsociable and dont bother with the guppies. is it likely to be something in my tank thats causing it?? i have 1 piece bog wood and 2 rocks, all brought from fish shops. many thanks.

many thanks for your help and comments, since last night i have woken up to find a further two guppies dead at the bottom of the tank, i was told that my water was fine so i will take a further sample back to the shop and see what they say!!!

If your tank is newly set up and for your own ease of life, you would be far better getting yourself an API Aquarium pharmaceuticals Freshwater Master Test Kit with all of the tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate as well as pH. This would mean that you could do your own tests.

Did the dead fish show any signs of having been attacked liked ripped fins, damaged scales or mouths.

:good:

hi, so far we have lost 3 fish 2 of which have suffered a large "split" in their tail fin and then died about 1 day later. we have been advised by our LFS to try some chemical additives in case our fish have a bacterial infection. many thanks for your help and comments.
