Tail changes?

Ok...I have a young(freebie)betta from an aquabid buy a while back.All the info I got was "red marble".He's all red except for clear edging on fins and tail.At a glance he just looks red.His tail is best described as V or fan shaped and flares out wide but smooth edged at the end.Very different from a veil.But I was looking at him today and the tail appears to be losing the clear edging and has developed crowny looking points.Has anyone got any knowledge of this type of change or am I imagining things?

I can try later to get a pic but I'm not very good at it

If you're sure that it's not fin rot or damage, I can tell you that I haven't really heard about this issue before, but I've seen it! I have a fish who did the same thing. He is a super delta and now looks like a crowntail, though a ragged one. It's very weird. So I doubt you're imagining it.

I'm pretty sure it's not rot or other damage.But I am still no expert on bettas and their various types.Some that I first thought were young females have devoloped into males...I think

I need to get sharper eyes to see that telltale egg spot

iv heard of bettas changeing in color after their first year but never the whole tail type. thats odd

This does happen to bettas of mixed parentage (e.g. Super Delta Dad x Crown Tail Mum).

The betta may initially look very much like one parent, but transform in its appearance later because of the other parent's genes.

I believe he is of mixed parentage.The seller(Fox Valley Bettas)seems to sell mostly HM/CT mixes.The fish I won is a beautiful blue/black CT/HM male with just enough red to add flash to his look His tail is lovely but hard to describe.It looks somewhat like what I have seen pictured as a "rosetail" on aquabid.His spawn sister is very pretty as well.Another of the freebies that came is also a bit of a mystery fish.His coloring is a bit like the blue/red but his tail is quite different.His fins look like a CT but his tail is maybe more HM and very pretty,being red and blue with a lovely darker edging

I've been very happy with the fish from FVB and they just seem to get more beautiful over time.The one loss was a very nice opaque white who never really seemed as hardy as the others.She lingered a good while and I tried everything to boost her health, but she finally died

I wish I had more time and knowledge...I think I could get some lovely babies from these fish.But it will have to be a dream for now

Wow that's really interesting!! Didn't know that could happen, seems to be very rare and yet at the same time very very amazing

Hi Koda the way you have described your Bettas fins is what I have found with mine. His fins were all even round edges and now they are all spiky. I am not sure if is damage or they should be like this.

I'm afraid He didn't come with any detailed information.He was one the freebies I got with an auction I won.But all were quite small compared with my other bettas.If I had to guess I would say maybe 3 or 4 months.But I can't be sure as I have not seen bettas previously except what is available locally and those are usually full grown veiltails.

That is me in the pic.I joined about a year ago and my chapter is awesome.When I had a riding accident and broke my collarbone,they all stepped in to take care of me and my kid.That's great that your uncle is a member...CMA rocks
