Hi all,

How can i stop this fish from doing this, is it do to stress due to a fish-in cycle?
Also how can i get it out of his mouth and if he swallows it will it do any harm?

His tail is in such a state from splitting and tail rot as it is :(

edit:
nm i think he swallowed it o.0

We need more info on your tank. How big is it? Are there any other fish? Is the Betta a halfmoon Betta. It could be due to the stress from the Fish in cycle, but If he is an HM he could possibly just do it because of the size of his fins. HMs a notorious for tailbiting

Ah sorry

Before your post i tired getting some out and got a little bit.. it;s really long but before i could grab the rest he swallowed the lot. He is now moving his mouth a lot to breathe
He is a veiltail betta
His tails started splitting and he already had fin rot so i covered the tank for a bit as he was flaring a lot.
I've added mature media so the test results are about a day old, i was about to do one when i saw this ...

Oh gosh i isolated him him.. he looks worse on his bottom fin to his body (and where the body turns to fin) it is really see-through and there is blood streaking
API liquid test

Tank size:25 litre
pH: 7.4-7.6
ammonia:0.25ppm
nitrite: 0 ppm (did hit bottle hard to shake it up)
nitrate: about 20-30
kH: I dont have a test for this
gH:I do not have a test for this - both of these i did have stripes some time ago shown high GH and medium KH (very rough guess)
tank temp:26 c constant

redone again: all same except for nitrate which is about 10-20 (due to the down to gravel water change). Oh my taps have 0.25 ammonia

Tank has been running for a month.

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): Splitting (small part of tail fallen off) Redness and black webbing around tips of fins. No behavioral or appetite changes, flares basically all the time so added a black bg to the tank.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: Use to be nearly 100% a day now 2 times 50% a day.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Prime and aquarium salt

Tank inhabitants: one male betta fish

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): Nothing new, one big aquarium friendly ornament and three silk plants

q1. what can i do what is best for him
q2. how can i treat the symptoms i have melafix and kanaplex on their way (it was for a betta first aid kit)
q3. how can i stop him?
q4. he did this after covering his tank for a while, should i leave the light on for some of the night because i think he might go back to it if he is bored (i can put on a lower watt one that doesn't give massive light.) I am away at uni tomorrow for the whole day and for the rest of the week, so i cant go out and buy meds.. but i could maybe fit something in tuesday or thursday,
q5. will swallowing it hurt him?

i think Betta fish tail nip when stressed...my Male has hardly any of his beautiful finnage left...as he rips it off somehow..never seen him eat it though?

Yeah i've put his light on very low now.. he does seem much better now. That's a shame i hope he grows it back =/ . He definitely ate it, the only thing i hope is that it doesn't clog up his insides as it was quite a long bit.
