As we got a new tank a week ago the old one went on a table we had. The tank itself sat on a thick wooden board.
Today, i heard a loud crack and came in to see what it was and found the table it was sat on had snapped where the joint meets the leg.
Very quickly and with much swearing i had to take as much water out and then transfer the fish to the newly set up 50 gallon angel tank.

So a word of warning, please be careful where you site your tank!!!

this has always worried me, you see some photos and think "are you for real" but to go like that, NOT GOOD! sorry to hear this, I have a tank on a table that looks suspect as I haven't moved into my house yet.

This is why it's good to have a back up tank!

good luck with the clean up

I use to have nightmares about my tank collapsing when I had it on a table. Mine was on carpet, which would of been terrible if it fell.

This is not ment to sound rude or patronising but people need to understand that fish tanks are very very heavy objects when filled with water, gravel & rocks etc. and great care and consideration must be given when selecting a stand and site. Whilst I'm sorry to hear of your plight I just wanted to relay to others to take time out to think about this subject.

totally agree as i have had tanks of various sizes for around 20 years and have never had any problems siting my tanks until now. the table i used was made of pine and was flat pack so that gives you an idea of how sturdy it turned out to be.
the top of the table has slats of pine going length ways with two bits on the end going back. this joint on the left is what gave way and cracked the supporting beam underneath. luckily the tank didnt move as its on an inch thick board so its ok, but hubby came home and said it was because the side which went was slightly higher than the rest of the table and the weight on the dges of the tank had pushed it down level.
he refilled the tank half way and its now holding. it will do until i get a stronger table.
