Hello all.

Ive been wondering, whats the difference, if there is one, between T5 tubes and T5HO tubes?

Or are all T5s High Output?

Do i need a different ballast for the T5HO?

Thanks
Jeremy

HO T5 is different to regular T5. Most aquarium T5s are HO these days.

There's also Power Compact (PC) or Compact Fluorescent (CL), that's basically HO T5 doubled over in a U-shape.

Nice tanks in your sig BTW. I notice there's a few very good Polish aquascapers out there.

Hello.

I just got my light kit today by mail and am REALLY hoping it can run T5HO tubes.
I bought it from a polish website so I didnt really know the specs of the whole thing.
It runs 4x 24Watt T5s.... comes with the ballast, 4 reflectors 8 clips, 8 waterproof endcaps with cable, and a main power cable with a switch... all costing me 215zl (88USD, 45Pounds). Hope that was an ok deal. What do u guys think? I have to get the actual light tubes seperately tho.

The ballast is a Phillips HF-P 3/4 24 TL5/PL-L EII. Does anyone know if this will run HOs?

Btw, Thanks George about the tanks.
Im not Polish. Im Taiwanese Australian. Im just here in Poland for med school. 2 more years to go!!

Thanks in advance.

Standard T5s are only 24watt whereas HO (high output) are either 54 or 55watt. if your reflector is a 24w then your T5s are only standard T5s and not high output.

The HO T5s need a different ballast to the normal T5s.

having said that it depends on how long the globes are. The ones I mentioned are 4ft long. Shorter globes might have lower wattages.

22" 24w T5 are HO. Trust me - I have four over my 125 litre tank.

The 54w HO T5 you mention are 46".

I have 2 over mine

But you can overdrive your T5NO bulbs with a T5HO ballast. So you can save some money. But it may get a bit hotter than usually.
