I have just got myself four T-bar cichlids in the hope of getting a breeding pair they are still small and young but was wondering if anyone else has them i have done alot of research on them before hand using Books and the net. :D
I would like to know what other peoples views of these fish are whether they have been good or bad :good:
Plus any pics of yours would be nice too lol :p

I'm interested in this to,I have been thinking about getting some of these for a while (although i get them confused with Jade Eyes....not that it helps my LFS sells hybrids of the 2!)

I had 3 t-bars a while back. Really awesome fish! Not nearly as aggressive as most of their cousins but sill decent parents. They are also fairly easy to sex. Females have yellow fins and males are more maroon. Very cool breeding colors as well.

Here were mine:

Hope this helped! I loved mine and wish I still had them!

I've got one in my CA tank, and I can hand on heart say of all the different flavours of fish I've kept, he's my favourite by a long way.

I have a pair in a 25 gallon, hoping to get them breeding. They're lovely!!

What conditions did you create for them to breed or did they just do it lol.
plus do they prefer heavilt planted or loosely planted tanks mine have pots and pieces of slate to hide in with a couple of plants but thats it.

Cheers

I love t bars. My male (RIP) was easily one of the most personable cichlids I've ever kept and I've kept a lot. They bread really easily just like convicts. In fact my male preferred to breed with convicts

I didn't really go too out of the way to get them to breed. They were actually temporarily in a tank with angels when it happened. They chose to spawn on some driftwood.

I had a pair in a 24G tank and they bred within a week.
The PH was around 7 and it was decorated with bogwood, slate and cobbles.
As I hadn't expected them to breed, I'm not sure where they chose to spawn.

I'll second that. As soon as he sees movement he's right at the front of the tank, having a nosy at whats going on. And I've been in absolute hysterics at the little territory squabbles he and my Blue Acara have. Especially after watching them both flaring, darting forwards then drifting back, seeing the Acara turn away and then the Sajica rushes in to have a pop while his backs turned - then runs away! Love him.
