Sythoning Water off

i brought a little battery powered one from my lfs, can't remember who makes it but i only costs £15. just put it in the tank and hit the button on the top till the water flows then turn off again and let the siphon action take over. couldn't be easier.

You guys actually let the water get into your mouth when you suck on your hose?

maybe u cant see through it fair enough.

yet ANOTHER idea is to dip the whole hose into the water with the window end sticking out then put your thumb over the end and you should have a full tube of water. the rest is self explanitory.

i suck it with my mouth but as soon as i see the water coming i just take it off, no fish water in my mouth, totaly clean and works fine

yeah my hose (not bragging  ) is over 10 feet long and not see thru. ok i can stick one end in the tank and suck the other a bit to draw water thru without getting water in my mouth, but this take two people. One to hold the hose in the tank so we dont suk up fish or have the hose come back out the water onto the floor, whilst i go suk the other end to draw water thru.

i want to be able to do this on my own.

but when i fill the tank back up i use 20ltrs bottles and stick a 2 foot piece of hose in the bottle and suck the other end and then stick it in the tank. i then repeat this process 4 times. that mean takin the hose out of the tank and sucking it again each time its been in the tank    .

Dude how did you make ur python, that is my idea too to solve all this yukyness.

Here's some diseases that can be passed from fish to humans:

Tuberculosis
Symptoms are Hollow belly, Knife back, Pale skin, Bending of spine. They also lose their appetite which does not help them. If suspected, it is best to dispose of the fish immediately. Tuberculosis can be passed on to humans, but only if you have open wounds on your hands when placing them in the aquarium.

?_? i could never really understand why people sucket their hoses... you can use physics (yay!) to siphon the water. fill your siphon up with water, so that both ends are overflowing with water. then use your thumb and plug one end (usually the smaller end where the water flows out). Go to your fish tank and place the other end in the water, then invert it. make sure air does not get in the siphon. place your bucket below the tank, and ensure the other end of the siphon is below the end in the tank. after that, just let go of the lower end you are plugging, and the water should flow out :D it make take a few tries to get used to it though :\ took me a few months -_-

I have this idea, I haven't tried it yet but I don't see why it won't work. If you have a turkey baster for sucking out food and what not, squeeze the bulb, stick it in the end of the tube (make sure you get a good seal), and let it suck water into the tube. Kink the tube to keep the water from going back into the tank, and repeat step one over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and....... till you get a syphon going. If you try it let me know how it works.

I was syphoning with my mouth once and accidentaly filled my mouth and actually swallowed it   . Luckily (I thought) it was fresh water going back into the tank. The problem was I had just treated it with conditioner. I spent the rest of the day in bed feeling like I was going to die.

Moral of the story. Be careful what you put in your mouth.

be like me, drink some fish water, and you have a nice siphon. call poison control if you cant handle conditioner :drink: or just fill it in the sink before you bring it to the tank
