I have a Synodontis eupterus with a swollen belly. I have no idea what it is. It shows no discomfort and swims about freely. I've enclosed a picture below. The white marks are from where it gets chased by the other one, this is also a concern as they seem to be getting more aggressive, boisterous lately.

thanks

Mine get fat, but I don't think ever quite that fat.Mine also get the occasional marks like that, if it gets to bad you might be better of removing it.

It doesn't seem to be distressed in any way but if was a parasite or anything like that, wouldn't want it to infect the other fish. I'm a bit baffled by this one.

Anyone have any clues?????

Stop feeding for a day or two and see if it's belly goes down. :good:

What type of substrate do you have in the tank?? If gravel, could it have swallowed some of it!! Maybe you have some small pebble type stones, if so could that be it??

Although RTC are very well known for this and eupterus aren't, could be it ate something it shouldn't have.

If this is the case, it may very well regurgitate it in a few days. The suggestion to not feed it for a few days was a good one!!

Keep us posted.

As you said catfish master they're not known for it, mine carefully sieve through the gravel, even though they could easily some they usually don't, if they do however they just spit it out through their gills...My Raphael beasts however gobble up everything, but spit the gravel out through their gills. They bloat up twice the height sometimes (the belly swells up lifting them up  ), but to know ill effect...All catfish are pigs

 She's a female. She's allowed to have a big belly. My females do. It's not caused by overeating (although always something to watch out for) but by her becoming a grown-up. It would also explain the extra 'aggression' you're seeing. :hey:
