I am preety sure that my female swordtail is pregnant and has been for about 25 days she is not that fat but is a slight bit plump. The male has started chasing her allot the last two days. Does this mean she might drop her fry soon or is the male just being a nuisance to her.

Here <-- if you look at this link (i know it a molly but same signs to look for :good:) it will give you a good indication on whether yours is ready or not :)

Thanks for the link lilfishie its good but it does not say any infomation about males. Ive just bred guppys so i gessed the symptons would be the same but the male guppys did not herase the female guppy. So im still not sure if she is going to drop.

i have found from personal experience that males tend to hang around the females rear end before they drop (the females release a hormone or something) in order to eat the fry as they are born

o ok thanks that is exactly what he is doing

then i would turn the lights off give her some peace, do you have any plants in the tank, or a trap?

ok this is strange just looked in the tank to check on the behaviour and there is 3 fry so far. I have been waiting ages. what is the chances off that lol

have many plants and have a trap but im chosing to leave her free in the tank . I have just had guppy fry so i dont want to have hundreds of babbys so i will let them try and survive for them self.

quick grab them before the other fry do :good:

i did the same the other week actually with my swords, sitting staring at the tank then suddenly there was a baby in front of me
