Swordtails With Convicts

I was wondering can convict cichlids stay in the same tank with a pair of swordtails. I also have a pair of German Gold Rams and a rainbow shark in the same tank.

What size tank is it? I would take the shark and the rams out right away or the cons as their will be trouble especialy with the rams unless the tank is a 4 or 5 footer maybe - though saying that I have heard of people using adult sword tails as dithers for cons in the past though with mixed results seems to depend on the attitude of the cons and also some people mix them with good results with giant danios.

Its a 3.5 footer 45 gallon tank, and i haven't put the convicts in yet. But it depends on the temperament of the convicts right?? The rams and the swordtails do fine with each other though even when someone advised me it was a crazy thing to do. So whats the verdict?

If your going with the rams I'm afraid its a big no with the cons the rams wont stand a chance. But dont see any probs with mixing the swords rams and rainbow shark

Agree with above, keeping rams, swordtails and a RTB shark together will usually work,

Also i agree that in the right setup a single convict or a pair of females would live fine with a group of Swords,

In the past i have even kept a breeding pair of convicts with some large Swords in a 60G tank

If you want to breed convicts then a tank just for them only is the only reasonable option. Everything else will either be killed or severly bullied when they breed.

Agree with T, if you want to breed the convicts then your other fish will be killed if they are all kept together,

Even a single convict would most likely kill a pair of rams, so keeping these two species together is not really an option

Its your choice as to which you keep/get but if you get the cons you need to get rid of all other fish but then you can add some adult sword tails or giant danio there are a few members that have this set up working well. But no way mixing cons and rams thats the main choice you need to make

Thats my problem there, i got rams to see if i can breed them but the pair are both attacking each other lol so i don't know. If the cons can get along with adult 3 inch swordtails then i will get rid of the rams and try to breed convicts. If that is not going to work then i m going for jewel cichlids with swordtails.

NO don;t put jewel cichlids with swordtails, not even little ones. Added 3 jewel fry only 3cm thinking they were harmless babies to my mollly and swordtail tank Within 3 days the jewels had killed and eaten my 4cm male swordtail. Most cichlids are vicious brutes that will bully and kill defenceless fish. They can only be kept in a species tank or with bigger fish that can fight them off, usually other cichlids or large armoured catfish

Thanks for letting me know, I decided not to pick up the jewel cichlids but i did order some convicts.
Anyone know how the convicts will do, because i have got many different answers. I don't know which one to agree to

How they will do with what? If you mean with the swords then when they breed they will almost certianly kill them.

Do the Cons breed easy or no?? if they breed easy then i will get rid of the swords and rams, but if they are not easy to breed then i will not get any cons but will stick with the rams and swords
