The salt level I mentioned in my post (2 heaped tablespoons per 20 litres of water) is fine for all fish.

Add the salt to the main tank.

There's no point adding medication because we don't know what is wrong with him. Salt will treat a number of health issues in fish and it doesn't have anywhere near as many side effects as most chemical medications.

Unless the store bought water has the same pH and GH as your tank water, I would not use it because major changes in pH and GH could kill the fish.

Okay. Thank you for the help. I picked up aquarium salt from my pet store today and added some to the tank. So far no improvement but I know it could take a little while for him to get better.
