I have a batch of swordtail fry that are about 3-4 weeks old and i would like to know at what age do they develop their swords so that i can seperate them males from females. All the swordtail fry at the moment are 1 orange and 4 or 5 white creamy colour and all cute.

I have the same question too! Mine r born on the 3rd Aug so now a month old :D

When comparing to my guppy frys, they'r big! But then I guess other fishies in the main tank will still see them as their dinner :/

Swordtails can be sexed like platies, mollies or guppies. The males will have a gonopodium and the females the fan fin at the back. Use this as a guide to seperate them as this will develop before the sword. Seperating them is a good idea as the females will grow faster this way!

no its not till like a week to two weeks later .Some say they have a sex change but that really isnt true. When born they all look like females
