I am taking my three fish (2 fantails and 1 pearl scale) to my LFS to get a beta for my 6 gallon tank. What is the best way to exchange them? I was told to give the water a 80 % water change the night before and when it's time to take them to the LFS leave the filter running so it does not dry out and kill the bacteria? and swap within the hour. Is this information right that i have been given.

So my LFS as given me wrong info again about keeping a comet goldfish in my 6g tank, so now i will keep a beta as plenty of people have told me that i can keep one of these.

what kind of cold water fish are you getting???
any....yes...ANY type of goldfish is out of the question...

any type of goldfish, regardless of how young (small) you buy them....needs way more than a 6 gallon tank.

The original poster isn't getting coldwater fish; they are getting a betta/siamese fighting fish.

The Betta will be perfectly fine in your 6 gallon - but you will need a heater.

to be fair, the OP edited in the "betta" part AFTER I posted that goldfish could not be kept in the tank.
