total surprise one of the new platys i got saturday is giving birth NOW !!!!
When should i give the babies thier first feed?. :hyper:
Never had baby platy's before. I got some frozen Daphnia is that ok for them?

Thanks Sarah xx

:hyper:

I'd wait until tomorrow to give them some grub. Their yolk sac will dissolve within a couple of days and will provide them with enough food to get by until then so no worries if they are not hungry tomorrow. Mine are usually ravenous by the next morning though.

too early to do the survival of the fittest cos i haven't got enough plants yet so got the baby net out :) again luckily the minnow eggs weren't fertilized so thank goodness for that
it's my hi fin platy i got on Saturday thats giving birth :)

thankyou :)
easiest way to become a mummy for me lol

my platy didnt even look that big - not as big as some of them in the pics i've seen but the other one i got Saturday looks roughly the same size and neother of them had a dark gravid spot
i've saved 25 babies so far and plopped them in the net but she's still having them she's been doing it for 3 hours now

this morning i got up and transfered the 4 guppies from the 60l (will be shrimp tank) over to the main tank
and lowred the baby net into the 60ltr tank and slowly let them loose in there , they look happier in there with lots of space :)
kids can see them easier aswell

EDIT
another fish is giving birth but i cant tell which one it is , so going fry fishing again wish me luck :)

I like to feed the babies crushed flakes and baby brine shrimp. :)

They will go nuts for the frozen daphnia as a treat but you need basic balanced food for them as well. Your flake crushed between your finger tips will be fine for them until they get a little bigger. Don't forget lots of water changes. The overfeeding that you end up doing when trying to feed fry means the water changes need to be very regular and larger than when you keep mostly adults.

fine crushed flakes or crisps are more than OK, special fry food is not necessary. Occasionaly feed baby brineshrimp after the first 2 weeks. Oh and congrats and prepare for many more of these little fella's

thanks everyone :)
i got the my midwife gloves on again another fish giving birth lmao
