Surface Skimmers

Hi all

I'm thinking of installing a surface skimmer to my filter intake in order to remove the slimey clear film that keeps appearing (see pic below). Does anyone have any experience of these - good or bad. Do they work, are they noisy etc

ive never used them i would just sugest pointing your filter at the surface that got rid of my oil coat

tried that but only breaks it up for about 12" from outlet (spraybar). the other 5 foot has the scum. any ideas what causes it so I can rectify?
