Any suggestions for a surface fish to go with the fish I have below when I upgrade to a bigger tank...danio's or something??

Cheers

If you want a surface that really is a surface fish. Get a load of the butterfly fish, quite still most of times but nice figure.

I like my silver hatchets - very easy to keep.

You can usually get marbled hatches quite easily too.

I would recommend some gouramis or dwarf gouramis. They are pretty and peaceful for the most part.

Sorry, I should have read your signature first. Don't think gouramis would be a good fit for your current tank.

Nor would butterfly fish, they need peaceful tankmates that wont nip at their delicate finnage

If you want a surface fish that is also an oddball, how about an anablep anablep? There are 2 types - brackish and freshwater. Make sure you get the right type.

I've got my African Butterfly in with a South American Puffer. The puffer only tried nipping the butterfly a few times. The butterfly is peaceful and you would think from the fact that it really doesn't move around much that it would be slow. The butterfly can get very aggressive if other tank mates are bothering it. Its also one of favorite fish in my tank. Beautiful fish that everyone comments on when they see it.

The butterfly does require live food that floats on the surface such as insects. Mine will nip at flakes every once in a while, but prefers crickets. I also feed him meal worms that I carefully float on the surface of the water.
