I have to work until 11:30 PM on Valentines Day so my girlfriend and I decided that we would do V Day early. I completely surprised her with her own little fish tank. I got her one of those eclipse tanks that have the built in filter. She was completely (happily) surprised. She can become as obsessed with fishies as I am. Now that I have gotten her into the hobby maybe she will let me have more tanks! :p

Those eclipse tanks lie though. For a 2 gallon tank they say that three two inch fish are fine and ten guppies would be fine. Even Meghan (my gf) had to start laughing when we read that.

I wouldn't even keep one two inch fish in a 2 gallon. I think a couple guppies are fine (the ones that Meghan got seem to be doing ok) but not as many fish as the recommendation says. I usually try to keep to one inch of fish per gallon.

I think with bigger tanks the 1" per gallon rule can be bent a little because of the general space a tank that size can offer. But with a tank that small, I'd definatley keep stocking to a minimum.

It's a lovely present to buy someone GM, although I think you may have had ulterior motives...just a little ;)

She really seemed (happily) surprised to get her own tank. She treated it like a decorating project. It was like her own mini version of one of those decorating shows like Trading Spaces.

well my valentines present to myself are 8 tetras(either black neon, cardinal or glowlight undesided) and 2 small algae/bottom feeders(any suggestions?) :p because my tank has been cycled for two weeks with plants and light in for 1 so i am so exited i love going to the lfs and buying fish :D just my tupence i am really exited for some reason!
