It tends to cure too fast when the object is moist, that's the problem! It cures almost instantly when it gets wet. Which can be useful, but I've been in the OP's shoes when gluing plants to hardscape especially, and the glue turns white, so it's easy to make a mess of a lovely piece of wood or stone while trying to do this!
I've still used glue recently, to attach a buce and another plant to a piece of driftwood, but did it gingerly and had to hide the glue under the buce with a bit of moss ball moss. I tend to think the thread is probably better, but you really need a helper to do it since two hands aren't enough, and I get easily frustrated trying to tie stuff down with thread, lol.
