Hi, I haven't posted in a while, my internet ha sbeen screwing up very badly lately. well the other day I fed my two oscars their normal diet of live minnows raised by me. I neglected to notice the white spot on the minnow's tail fin and now the outbreak has spread to my oscars! My two tinfoil barbs in the same tank do not seem to have it yet. Anyways, water parameters are fine, 0 Nitrites, 0 Ammonia. I raised th etemps to 85 degrees and preformed a 50% water change. So far it hasn't gotten worse.

Today I began a special food regimine: (tell me what you think)

I choked out 26 bucks for a bottle of collodial silver and bought some cichlid staple and non-iodized salt. I put 10 pellets of staple in a cup and lightly sprinkled collodial silver on top so that it would absorb into the food. I then fed the fish and they ate it up happily. I had problems getting the oscars to come to the surface long enough for me to dropper feed the silver. Good idea and will it work? The Ich is being very stubborn and my biggest oscar is my fiance's favorite. He would be heart-broken if he lost that fish. so far they are not acting as if they have ich, but I fear the worst. -_-

My betta is just getting over Ich as well.

You're doing good. add a good amount of salt everyday. I also used that silver stuff on my fish! my mom has a stock pile of it. I also put this stuff called Ambrotose that helps with the immunity system. do 30 to 50% water change everyday. and do 30% water changes everyday for 7 - 10 days after the Ich is gone.

what temp do you have your tank at normally?

Raising the temps speeds up the ich cycle but unless you get it to above 86 degrees it can survive and continue to be a problem. Increasing the temps is great if the fish can take this but to be honest I don't know the temp ranges for all the fish you have.

I have used aquarium salt with fish that can stand it and it has worked well. I have no idea what the silver stuff you are using is so can't give any opinion there.

Below is a link to an article which has saved many a fishy life and may be useful:

Hope all the fishys get better

Hi FishHeads :)

It's great to see you posting here again, but I'm sorry it's because of the trouble you are having.

Wuvmybetta is crazy about the collodial silver and uses it a lot. I'll try to call her attention to your post.

Anyway, I hope your fish get better. Try not to be a stranger here. We miss you.

So far so good, the ich has not gotten any worse as far as I can see and the Oscars are still acting normally and the tinfoils still don't have it. I guess the collodial silver tainted cichlid staple is working. :D

Hiya FishHeads, long time, no see :D

sorry to here about your situation, but the silver should take care of it, how are they looking now?

:D :D :D  I got it!!! Muahahahaha...The Ich is gone from the smaller oscar and there is only a penny-sized patch of it left on the big oscar's tail. I am continuiing the regimine of silver staple for another week. :D

I love that stuff! Instant results! I'm glad to hear it (don't be a stranger!)
