 My betta whipcream, died this morning  And I found my betta boss in whipcream's half of the tank not soon after  So I left him, and when I got home from going somewhere, Boss was in his own side again. He outsmarted the divider. Igot to add more gravel befor I get a new betta. Clever little monster

sorry about your loss, that's a hard one.

I tried dividers and they just didn't work for me, luckily I know a guy that glows glass and he makes my Betta homes now. I had that problem with my red veil tail Ixion when I tried giving him part of a 10, been 3 months and my twin tailed goldfish Narche is still healing.

I've had no problems with using dividers -- the only time I've had an escape was when I was too stupid to check each side of the divider for gaps.

The trick to it is you need to make certain the side of the divider seals against the glass and you leave at least one inch of divider over the water line, and I haven't had any troubles.

I have two agressors and one relatively peaceful fishie sharing at 16 gallon divided. It works for me, honestly.

The ownside to divideds is the fact that once one fish gets sick, they all get sick, but eh. What doesn't kill em makes em stronger.
