Similar, but I would do away with the split weir at the start and just have an under over double weir. That way you can have the first area water level about 1-2" from the top and the next area just 1" below this (around 9", governed by the height of the first baffle between the second and return chambers)

ok... wipes sweat from forehead... caps sharpie.... is this what you were thinking? or do I have the first two baffles backwards ( the ones on the intake side.)

Almost exactly it, save I would have the first of the second baffles about half an inch smaller than the last of the first.
so the water flows the correct way right?

now... what flow rate will i need for this contraption 20g main tank just under 3 feet from top of display tank to bottom of my sump
