Sump How Do I Do It Im Real Confused

also the holes are 1.1/2 inch so 40mm

To answer your question onhow to prevent a back siphon and having your sump overflow when your return pump is off. The easiet way to do this is to drill a tiny hole in the return line right above the water line of the main tank. Once you shut off power to the return pump, air will be sucked into this hole instead of your water.

im gunna run a spray bar thats out of the water so i dont think ill have that problem thanks anyway

10mm Acrylic will hold the water but you will have issues gluing Acrylic to glass to my knowledge.

rember as well if you have a 40 mm hole that does not mean 40mm pipe as the 40mm is the size of the bulk head if you look at the webby for coral culture they show dimenssions of bulk heads

The reason for the Durso is to silence the gurgling I have tried about 4 - 5 diffrent methods to silence mine the noise is like emptying a bath continualy not a great sound for sure.

ah fare eneough so ill try to locate some glass then thatle be fun

You can use acrylic to glass, the silicone caulk will not adhere to acrylic though. I just silconed both sides of my acrylic baffles to the glass and used some sort of edge to spread it for my sump baffles and voila.

I have a check valve on my return piping to prevent back siphonage, just in case :)

so if i got a sheet of 10mm acrylic and bent it would i just need to silicone it as normall or could i ruff up one the edges od acrylic so that it binds better or not

ok i think this will work instead of the usual wier as im strugglingg to find the glass

im gunna have the normal sized pipe with the durso but for the wier im gonna have a 18 inch tall 6 inch wide piece of pvc drainage pipe then add a stop end drill a hole little biger than the durso pipe and silicone all on the stop end and add weight so it gets a firm strong hold and it will be a wier and im confident it will work

yah you don't need to rough the edges up. You can use superglue to hold it in place while you are caulking. I'd do this anyway since the caulk won't be "holding" the acrylic in place, just filling the cracks.

im gunna go with the drain pipe now any way

thats if i can get the drain pipe

You should be able to get all of the pieces at a local hardware store. The pieces i used for a standpipe were:

1-1/4" pvc pipe
1x 1-1/4" 90 degree elbow
1x 1-1/4" Tee
1x 1-1/4" cap or plug

That's it!

edit: if you have threaded bulkheads, you will need a 1-1/4" slip to fpt (female p thread?) fitting.

ok thanks

ok thanks

Dont forget a check valve and anti-siphon protection on your return pipe :)

yeah im gonna use a out of water spray bar so it wont be able to back ssyphon thankss any way ski
