Sump for freshwater?

Hello ,
I've been pondering on adding a sump to my 36-gallon bow front aquarium. What has got my interest is how it looks and seems to work on my saltwater tank that is currently in cycle mode. Doing research and reading online and people seem to be excited about the idea of a wet dry sump to a freshwater tank .. Debating on trying this out on 1 of my 2 freshwater tanks and interested in maybe ridding myself of the HOB filters and moving my heater to the sump area. At this point, I am on the fence looking over not sure if I want to try this out. If I were to try this out the plan was to make a custom sump out of a ten-gallon tank for wet dry setup or just purchasing something like http://www.fishtanksdirect.com/pro-...dry-trickle-filter-with-prefilter-207510.aspx
I am open to anyone's ideas or if you have tried this and feel it is not worth the investment etc.. Please give me your thoughts on the topic.

I wouldn't have a tank over 200 litres without a sump, fresh or salt.

You get to hide your equipment, you increase total volume, you can dose better whatever you may be dosing, and it's a lot easier to add carbon or phos remover if needed.

In m discs tank I even had an auto top up.

I too am pondering about getting a sump tank, has many practicalities and I think well worth considering.

Have seen these trickle filters myself as well but I dont really like them for some reason, can't put my finger on it tbh.

Do continue to let us know how this pans out, I would be extremely interested in whichever method you choose.

I went ahead and made a purchase rather than make it myself. The only thing I need is a return pump which I have a pump to mix my salt water so that will get to test it maybe its good for that.

Seems I also got the only one they had for my tank size and a review I may do you for guys.
As for the filter from what I was reading up on it does have its downsides but for the time for it's best for me, I think. Let us hope it works out
