I am going to be looking to add a fish or two to my community tank over the next week or so and have been looking into suitable tank mates for my existing fish.

Currently I have:

3 x Harlequin
3 x Zebra Danio
3 x Neon Tetra
2 x High-Tailed Platy
3 x Assassin Snail
1 x Baby Guppy Fry (which is coming out of the hatchery and into the main tank tomorrow morning)

These fish live in a 70ltr tank.

I'd quite like a Siamese Fighting Fish or a silver shark, but I believe that a silver shark is not classed as a community fish and may not be suitable for my tank.

I appreciate that the guppy can't stay in the tank on its' own, so i'll need to get another gupy so it's not lonely, so this may be the fish I need to buy. Regardless, i'd like to know what fish would be suitable for my tank.

Also, would I be safe with a pleco or aquatic frog?

Your tank is a bit small for more fish. As well, you don't have the proper group numbers for some of them such as your neons and harlequins, they are shoaling fish and prefer larger groups, probably at least 8.

Silver sharks will grow around 12 inches so can not be kept in a 70 litre tank, a group will need around a 6 foot tank (and there a shoaling fish so should be kept in groups.

Your tank is also small for Danio's who although small are very active fish and need a bigger tank.

My suggestion would be to return the Danio and get another 3 of the Neons and Harlequins which are shoaling fish and will be happiest and most interesting in groups of at least 6.

Plecos grow pretty big and if you want a bottom fish your best of with a shoal of Panda Corys although you would again need 6 and this might overstock you.

Probably not what you wanted to hear but I suspect it's the answers you'd get from most on here.

There's quite a few threads going for stocking a 20 gallon tank at the moment - these will give you ideas as to what you can and can't have.

In my experiance Betta's (Siamese Fighting Fish) do not go very well with fast moving fish like Danio's or Tetra's.

Also Neon Tetra can be nippy when kept in small groups, and a Betta would make an easy target for any fin nipping.
