One of my weather loaches jumped out of it's tank last weekend. I managed to put him back while still alive but he died soon afterwards. I obviously didn't notice him quick enough. I put it down to the high tank temperature as it was on the day we hit record October temperatures.

However I noticed this evening my 2nd & last loach on the floor, dead & all dried up :(

Does anyone know why they would jump out? And also how? It's a Juwel 120 ltr tank with a full hood. They either pushed open the flaps used to feed them or got out the tiny holes at the back designed for cables. Strange for them both do it this so close together. Had them both over a year.

I reckon they must have got out of the cable hole. Were they near the back of the tank or the front? I know it sounds a strange question, but did you leave the tank unattended with the hood off at any point? If you did they could have jumped out or if you have a cat in the house, i've seen it before where the cat has scared the fish and caused it to jump out.

I do have a cat but she's never bothered with the fish. Strange I know.

They were both definitely in the tank when I re-lidded the tank after water changes.

The 1st one was at the front of the tank & the second at the side. Maybe jumped out the back via those holes & wiggled their way to their end position.
